I intend for this document to be an "open-format document"; anyone who wants to can add supplementary material either for their own use or for wider distribution. If you add supplementary material for your own use, your work may be overwritten if you download and install an updated version of this document. To minimize the work you have to redo, put your supplementary information on a separate file or files in a separate directory from that containing the MODFLOW Help File. You can create links in the MODFLOW Help File to your supplementary materials. If you update the MODFLOW Help File, you will have to recreate your links but you will not have to rewrite the supplementary materials. If you coordinate with me, you can minimize even that effort. You can show me how you want the links installed. I will include the links on future versions inside the HTML "comment" tags. The links will be invisible to other users when viewed on a web browser. All you will have to do is remove the comment tags from your links in the HTML document when you install the updated version of this document. I have included an example of a link inside a comment at the beginning of this paragraph. You can't see it with a web browser but if you look at the source document it will be obvious. If you remove the comment marks; i.e. "<!--" and "-->", the link will appear.
If you wish to distribute the supplementary materials widely, send me copies of the supplementary materials. I will include links to it in all future versions of this document and, with your permission, distribute the supplementary materials with this document. You should be sure to put your own copyright on the supplementary materials. You must also send me a signed statement giving me the right to distribute the supplementary materials or else set up your own web page from which people can download the supplements. The latter plan has the advantage that you can update the content of the supplements without needing to contact me. If you wish to charge for the supplementary materials, you'll need to make your own arrangements for that.
If you intend to prepare supplementary materials it might be a good idea to contact me early so we can coordinate our activities.
